Leadership Program

The Somerset County Chamber of Commerce proudly presents its Leadership Somerset County program. The leaders of tomorrow need opportunities to both enhance and encourage their participation in making Somerset County a better place to live. Leadership Somerset County is designed to bring together a diverse group of individuals who share a common goal of becoming leaders prepared to face future challenges, thereby ensuring that Somerset County is led by able, resourceful, and vigorous individuals, both now and in the future.

Leadership Somerset County is a civically minded program designed to promote awareness and generate interest in serving the community as leaders.

The 10-month course runs from September to June with monthly half-day sessions.

Leadership Retreat

The 2019-2020 class began with an overnight retreat that offers a two-day, team-building session allowing participants to meet and bond with their fellow classmates and is facilitated by a professor from Allegany College of Maryland. Their enthusiastic approach sets the tone for the rest of the program.

Leadership Somerset County, a unique, 10-month program designed to nurture new community and business leaders by providing an overview of specific areas of the region and to prepare them to face future challenges, thereby ensuring Somerset County is led by able, resourceful individuals.

Other sessions are typically held on the third Wednesday of each month and focus on a variety of topics, including: community and economic development, local government and the judicial system, business development and entrepreneurship, healthcare, education, energy and natural resources, non-profit organizations, and our heritage and quality of life. Each session features qualified panelists who share their expertise in these chosen areas and give complete overviews of the issues they face.

Class participants also take part in community-oriented group projects before the course culminates with a graduation ceremony in June.
