FORMER POW RECOGNITION DAY
April 9
National Former Prisoner of War (POW) Day honors the courageous men and women who have endured brutal treatment at the hands of their captors. As a result, they’ve also suffered separation from family and have displayed incredible endurance and faith.
President Ronald Reagan proclaimed National Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day on April 1, 1988 through Presidential Proclamation 5788. April 9, 1988 was the first day to recognize the former POW’s.
